HARDA targets the bigger Horn of Africa region. However, currently the organization operates in two countries of HoA including: Kenya and Somalia. The main office of the organization is in Mandera (Kenya) with satellite offices in El-wak Kenya and El-wak Somalia and Garowe (Puntland).
The communities in this region are among the most vulnerable in sub-Saharan Africa due to frequent exposure to the vagaries of climate change (e.g. drought & floods) and environmental degradation, armed conflicts, and political, economic and food crises that deteriorates their living conditions.
Horn of Africa is a home to millions of pastoralists who roam the region with their livestock faced with continuous challenges of dwindling grazing resources. The pastoralists, despite their resilience, are constantly faced with shocks emanating from climate change, resource-based conflicts, poverty as well human and livestock disease outbreaks. The region has also huge population of poverty stricken rural and urban dwellers. HARDA seeks to improve the living conditions of the said groups in the region by promoting technologies and instituting measures that promote self-reliance.
In addition, HARDA will also collaborate with government agencies, other CSOs, donors and the local communities to achieve its developmental objectives.
